Tuesday’s Learning and notes for the week

Dear families,

Our learning schedule for Tuesday is below.

This week, our learning will look similar to past weeks, but changes are coming. You may notice a lightening of tasks as we begin to transition in to our new schedule. Please encourage your child to spend extra time working on their book wheel, reading in general, science expert tasks or other home tasks (music practice, creating things, helping out around the house) if they seem to have extra time. I am also including some at home science challenges (see the end of our daily schedule) this week which I would whole-heartedly encourage kids to try and discuss at home.

This week, we will continue to have three learning blocks a day with a morning meeting.  We are reading a Junior Great Book story this week to focus on reading actively and writing about reading using evidence and reasoning. In science we are studying mixtures and solutions and will be (hopefully) setting up an home experiment to observe this week. In math, students will continue to work forward on their assigned math module. Even thought it is a 4 day week, we still have vocabulary and book wheel tasks to work on. We will not be having family meetings (you are still welcome to reach out to me via email and we can certainly schedule a one time family meeting if you feel that is needed). A class we will begin to discuss some of the changes coming in the next few weeks and I will also be sending home more details this week for families.

Next week, we will drop down to AM meetings only. That we will not be holding our instructional block 3. Students will work independently instead. This will allow me to put finishing touches on the physical classroom, as well as our schedules and plans for learning in our new mode.

Have a great Tuesday and stay warm and safe!

There will be a supply swap this Wednesday, at Carnation Elementary only, from 8 – 9 AM.

Something Science-y:

You could totally try this today! This is actually a mixture doing some really interesting things. What could you learn about mixtures by trying this out yourself?
